JD turned 42 on New Years Eve, and we definitely celebrated. I'd say most years we're both sacked out by midnight, especially me. Well this year we made plans. We even asked grandma and grandpa Martin to watch the kids over night.
Saturday afternoon, we headed out to Post Falls, Idaho. Checked into our room where we prefunked...remember that word? Ha, ha, just means we had a beer. Then we drove to Wolf Creek Lodge, in Coeur d'Alene for dinner. JD has wanted to for quite awhile for dinner. IT WAS AWESOME. Totally rustic ambiance, good food, good desert. We basically ate enought that we had to unbutton the top button on our jeans (my already tight jeans inparticular) and rolled out to the car. Next, we headed to the Slab Inn to see our favorite local band, Copper Mountain Band. They are from Troy and super good. We had just seen them the weekend before in Libby, and have seen them at least each summer over the last couple of years; at rodeo and/or Logger Days. Normally, we have no shame of our lack of moves and dance the night away. However; these people in Post Falls, Idaho were quite serious about their country dance moves. There was nobody else just regular dancing, you know, regular dancing. They were doing things like scooting, and sliding and spinning, and even flipping. So, we thought we should probably sit out until either we had enough beer that we wouldn't notice people starring at us...or until everyone else had enough beer that they wouldn't notice us trying to dance; whichever came first.
As we sat their waiting for one of the previous two situations to happen...we noticed that JD's cousin was on the other side of the bar...and his other cousin, and her husband! Company, yay! They didn't know how to dance either, so we all just hung out for a few hours and caught up. What a treat!
These are all phone pictures..love that the birthday boy is crossing one eye, memories.
We started to worry at about 9:30 cause we are old and were getting kinda tired and weren't 100% sure we had it in us to make it until midnight. Not to mention, Idaho is an hour ahead, so really it was 10:30, which is waaaay past our usual bedtime. But we hung in there. JD's cousins took off for home at just after 11:00 despite our pleas for them to stay. And although neither of us said it out loud, I think there was mutual worry about making it until midnight.
We people watched, practiced taking selfies with my phone so we'd be prepared for capturing our New Year kiss...which took a few tries to get right.
Ordered up our New Years shots for the stroke of midnight (not my idea, blech)...
Ooh, then they gave us a glass of complimentary champagne...
And finally...
We made it, Happy 2012 baby!
